Bearcat Tailgater Sugar Bowl Guide

Taxi's have a flat rate to downtown/the French Quarter $28 for one or two, or $14 each for 3 or 4 people. The on-site airport shuttle is $13 each way. Limos are $35 . It is not necessary to rent a car in New Orleans unless you plan on using it to tailgate. For the most part you can walk and take public transportation everywhere you need to go. Make sure to bring a comfortable pair of shoes.
This is a very good question. There isn't much of a tailgate atmosphere in New Orleans because of all the bars within short walking distance to the Stadium. If you are set on tailgating, Bearcat Tailgater recommends tailgating in the parking lot located at 1001 Loyola Ave. ($20 per parking spot). You may also try one of the garages surrounding the stadium but you may have some limitations if you plan on grilling. The closest RV lot is French Quarter RV Resort which is about a 25 minute walk to the stadium. Last we checked rates were $199 per night with a two night minimum. All in all New Orleans is just like one Big Tailgate...there is no open container policy and public intoxication and nudity is widely accepted.

Bourbon Street is like Disney World for Adults - tons of bars with very few rules. Don't expect to hear the bartender yell "Last Call" as the bars close when people leave. It is perfectly legal to drink on the street and if you leave one bar to head to another just ask for a plastic to-go cup. Whether its drinking a Hurricane at the World Famous Pat O'briens or singing a little karaoke at the Cats Meow , Bourbon St. has it all. We recommend visiting the Pub Club Bourbon St. Bar Guide for everything you need to know about the Bars on Bourbon St.

Bourbon St. bars have 3-for-1 drinks from 4 - 7 pm every day.... including Weekends, New Years and Game Day!

DRESS-This one is for the ladies
Think Casually Wild and don't forget to wear your Bearcat gear.

Pub Club rates New Orleans as the #1 destination for NYE. Click Here for Pub Club's NYE in the Big Easy Guide. We'll be hanging out on a balcony on Bourbon St. Just look for the inflatable Bearcat (if he fits) and the Bearcat Beer Bong that will extend to the street.
There are tons of events planned for Bearcat Fans including free concerts, pep rally's, happy hours, etc. CLICK HERE for a complete line-up of UC related events in New Orleans. Special thanks to the UC Alumni Association for your hard work and planning! Go Bearcats!

How to spot a Gator Fan in New Orleans...

Just look for the always trendy Florida Gator +Jorts (Jean Shorts). Apparently this is the running joke in the SEC started by Georgia fans. There is a web-site titled Gators Wear Jean Shorts dedicated to the topic. Even Oklahoma Oklahoma had fans in Miami last year with a dry-erase board counting Gator fans wearing jean shorts. CLICK HERE to read Florida's side of the story in The Real Story Behind "Gators Wear Jean Shorts" from GatorTailgating.com.

I left a few photos of what we can expect in New Orleans!

Let the Butch Jones Era Begin

Butch Jones was introduced as the new University of Cincinnati Football Coach Wednesday afternoon. The former CMU Chippewas coach agreed to a 5-year deal with the Bearcats to replace Brian Kelly.

Butch Jones discusses the transition after the press conference.

New UC Coach: Butch Jones

According to BearcatLair Butch Jones will be named the new head football coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats. Jones compiled a 26-13 record in three years at CMU and two MAC championships. This season proved to be the Chippewas strongest year with an 11-2 record and a big win over the Michigan St. Spartans.

The Chippewas ranked 17th in the nation in scoring and 14th in the nation in scoring defense making them one of the more balanced football teams in the country.

Cure for the BK2ND Virus????

As the BK2ND virus continues to spread faster than the swine flu in a sorority house, Bearcat Nation is desperately seeking a cure. Will it come tonight at the football banquet? If not, Dr. NeumannKy is setting up a special clinic tonight in U.S. Bank Arena where symptoms can be temporarily relieved by watching the Bearcats Hoops squad lay the wood down on the Miami Redchickens!

In other news: In just over 3 days and 1 hour of public sale, UC has SOLD OUT its allotment of Sugar Bowl tickets! How is that for showing what Bearcat Nation is made of! Take that Dantonio!

WARNING: BK2ND Virus Outbreak!

Over the past several days a mysterious virus has been running rampant in the Tri-State area, spreading faster than the legs of a Vegas cocktail waitress when Tiger Woods is in town! Symptoms of the virus include sleeplessness, anxiety, depression and constant urges to check facebook, twitter, rumor blogs and websites for updates on University of Cincinnati Football coach (for now) Brian Kelly's coaching future. Dr. NeumannKy, who specializes in the study of highly infectious diseases, has isolated a single strain who's scientific name is the BK2ND virus or more commonly knows as the Kelly Flu (to South Bend).

No form of modern medicine has been able to cure those who fall victem to the BK2ND virus. Fortunately Dr. NeumannKy prescribes a Xavier Musketeer tour of the Bearcat woodshed administered by your #19 (and rising) Cincinnati Bearcats Basketball team!

Seriously, remember, we were a basketball school before a football school. No reputation or tradition building necessary. I love football and I hope we can continue to perform at such a high level but we are an infant when it comes to NCAA football tradition and our conference is viewed the same way. I would rather lose a great coach during the infant stage of our football program than lose a legendary coach at our tradition rich basketball program due to the ego of a dirty she devil. We have a #3 ranked football team preparing to play in the Sugar Bowl and a top 20 basketball team that's poised to spank the cross town rival this weekend. If we lose BK we will move on and we will continue to have much to root and be thankful for.

The Wannstache

Pitt football Coach Dave Wannstedt may be more famous for his mustache (The Wannstache) than his football coaching abilities. The Urban Dictionary defines the Wannstache as "The Mustache that Dave Wannstedt, head coach of the Pitt Panther football team, sports on his mug. It closely resembles a Portsache or a 1970's mustache similar to a 1970's pornstar." This famous mustache has its own web-site , The Fighting Wannstaches.....and if that wasn't enough you can follow the Wannstache on Twitter. This just could be the most famous mustache in College Football but is it the most famous mustache in sports? You decide...

Cats Chat with NeumannKy!!!

3-0 Bearcats Punish the Beavers in Corvallis Move Up to #14

In the words of Flava Flav, Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhh Boyeeeee! The Bearcats loaded up the wagon and hopped on the trail to Oregon and luckily BK and the boys arrived dysentery free just in time to lay a smack down on the RoBros and the rest of the Oregon State Beavers. What a great win for the Bearcats who are starting to show the nation that the guard has changed in the Big East and THEY are the program to beat, the program with swagger, the program that has opposing teams quivering as they take the field. So, what did we learn about the team this weak?

1) The UC defense is the real deal - This defensive unit plays fast, hits hard and the D-Line may end up being every bit as good as last year's. The scary thing is these guys will only get better as the season goes on. Late in the week we learned of Curtis Young's injury and what happens? Redshirt freshman Walter Stewart comes in and records 2.5 sacks! I originally believed the "next man in" philosophy to be a little on the cheesy side, but boy these guys have bought in.

2) This team can handle adversity - The CATS opened up with a lousy first quarter, so what do they do? Post up 21 in the second quarter to take a 21-8 lead into halftime. TP and company looked to be shaking off a few early cob webs but the defense held Jaquizz Rodgers and the Beavers to two fields goals and the offense found their groove and did what they needed to do to win the game.

3) DJ Woods is a player - Who am I kidding? This whole receiving corps is STACKED and none of them are going anywhere anytime soon except for Mardy (insert Vidal Hazleton next year).

4) TP to Mardy witta D = unstoppable - Word is, Mardy wasn't 100% but managed to still snag 9 balls and find the endzone.

5) BK refuses to run the ball even in short yardage situations - this is my ONLY criticism from this game as I believe they could have put 42 on the board had they played more conservative in short yardage situations and played for the first down rather than continue to go for the home run. They have 2 very capable running backs, they are playing with a lead in a hostile environment and Oregon State did a good job defending the short stuff all day.... On 2nd and 2, Dr. NeumannKy prescribes a quick pitch to The Human StamPEAD...then go for the home run on 1st down!

6) We don't have a punter - We're just going to have to score on every possession.

This Saturday we've got the Fresno State Bulldogs coming to the Nip! They are 1-2 with losses to #10 Boise St. and Wisconsin. This team is not afraid to play anyone and lucky for the CATS they are not afraid to relax on defense. Before Oregon State, I would have been concerned about Fresno's rushing attack but now, I think this one is over by halftime. The NeumannKy predicts Bearcats 45 Fresno St. 17.

Make sure to join the Bearcat Tailgate Crew in the Schiel School lot starting bright and early at 8 a.m. for Kegs & Eggs complete with ice cold hudy pops, mimosas, bloody marys and new and improved Bearcat Bombs! You are not going to want to miss this! And remember - WEAR WHITE!
